Trust: Complete trust - 27 January 2026

Andrea Sieberhagen

She had heard about Jesus, so she came in the crowd behind him, saying to herself, “If I just touch his clothes, I will get well.” Mark 5:27-28, GNT

Here we read the story of the woman who suffered from continuous bleeding for 12 long years. Although she had consulted many doctors and spent a great deal of money, her condition had not improved. She was desperate.

In this story we find a remarkable example of trust.

This woman had only heard about Jesus. She did not know him. She was not in a personal relationship with him. In that sense, we could call this blind trust. She had a deep need, and she believed that this man could heal her.

Her trust ran so deep that she believed a single touch of his clothing would make her well. She did not speak a word, she only touched his cloak.

“Immediately her bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.” (Mark 5:29, NIV)

Immediate results.

Don’t we sometimes feel just as desperate?

Don’t we also experience circumstances where we feel that we have tried every option and still cannot find a positive outcome?

Yet, if we pause for a moment, we will realise that our position is, in many ways, far more favourable than hers. We can have a personal relationship with Jesus. We have not merely heard about him through his Word, but we get to know him.

Through prayer, we can speak directly to him and share all our desires and needs.

In Mark 5:34 (NIV) Jesus says, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

These words should encourage us to remain strong in faith and never lose our trust in Jesus.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us, in our personal relationship with you, to make use of our access to you to bring our needs before you in trust, and then to keep believing! Amen
