In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. John 1:1-5, NIV

This scripture tells us where the Word, namely Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God comes from. Since the beginning, God, as well as the Word (Jesus), was already there. And at the very beginning when creation came into being, the Word was also already there to create with God (John 1:3). Creation came into being through them. However, God and the Word are not part of creation. It implies that above all creation, God and the Word are exalted; and the one who creates, is more important than what has been created

The verse for today introduces us to the Word, namely Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah. He was with God and is himself, also God. Sounds strange? Yes, almost inconceivable. And this is what it will always be for the unbeliever, because only those who honestly believe in the Godhead, can grasp this grandeur. You see, it is the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life that reveals or discloses truths like these to the heart and spirit. His presence in you enables you to understand and believe the truths of the Word, and confess that Jesus (the Word) IS.

John 1:14 shines light on this truth when it says: “And the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, in an upside down, lie infested society, we thank you for your untouched, clear Word- truths that enable us to walk on God’s path. Sensitise the spirit of every Christ follower to read the whole truth in the Word and to live accordingly. Awaken a sensitivity in your children to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit and obey when he speaks. Amen.
