There is power in prayer for our children. Earlier this year I presented a Pray for Your Child prayer series. The feedback from people who still testify that God touched their children remains astonishing to me. Christina is one of them. Here is her testimony.

Christina: “My youngest child, Inke (4) is an introvert. We picked it up early in her life since her sister is the opposite.

"However, the challenge came in the classroom. The teacher told us because Inke never spoke, she struggled to give her a report at the end of the term as she for instance did not even know if Inke knew her shapes and colors. Also the other children in the class did not even want to sit at Inke's table because she simply never spoke. The teacher suggested we take Inke for a hearing test. We did. Her ears were sprayed out, but still Inke did not speak.

"A friend of mine, who practices as a psychologist, took me for coffee. She was really concerned about Inke never speaking. Her suggestion was that we take Inke to a pediatrician who specializes in children's development. After the session, the pediatrician told us that even though she is known to get a response from the shyest child, Inke never said a word throughout the whole session. This made me anxious.

"I called a friend to our home to come and pray with me for Inke. We prayed while Inke played on the mat. I don’t think she was even aware of us praying. That Sunday after we prayed, it was my friend’s turn to present Kids Church. Great was our surprise when Inke started raising her hand and asking questions. This happened during the school holidays.

"Back at school, the teacher phoned me and asked if we spoke to Inke. The turnaround was immense. Inke gave the teachers hugs and talked to them. After playtime outside, Inke even called the children back to class.

"The difference in Inke continued - so much so that the teacher told me the other day that she had to silence Inke in class. For other parents, it might be an embarrassment; to me it's music to my ears! God intervened and worked a miracle in our child's life. Prayer works!”

Christina is right. There is tremendous power in prayer. In Psalm 127: 3 we are reminded that children are a gift from God. Also in 1 John 5:14 we read: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

Our children belong to God. When we dedicate them to Him to intervene in their lives, He hears. God bless.

Father God, thank you so much for my children and grandchildren. Thank you for entrusting them to me. Today I want to pray for each of them (name them). Protect and preserve them and help them to know You. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
