A path through the Red Sea, manna and quail, water from a rock and again a path through the Jordan river into the Promised Land.

These were only some of the miracles God did for the Israelites on their journey to the Promised Land. Over the past few days, I have been reading the story of the Israelite’s journey in my personal Bible study. What strikes me time and time again is how God provided them with what they needed, when they needed it.

In the desert the Israelites had to fetch new manna daily. Why? Because God wanted to teach them that they can be dependent on Him daily. In Deuteronomy 29: 5-6, God says, “During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.  You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the Lord your God.” God not only provided the Israelites with food and water; He also provided for all their other needs. (Interesting to note that after their first meal in the Promised Land, the manna disappeared).

At the Red Sea and the Jordan River, God opened a way through the water for the people to walk through on dry ground. Why? In Joshua 5:24 we find the answer: "He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.”

God is still our powerful Provider today. In Matthew 6:31-33 we read, "So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Instead of becoming angry or discouraged when things get tough, let us remind ourselves that God still provides us with what we need, when we need it. Let us rather trust Him and seek his kingdom in order for Him to demonstrate to us His might, power and ability to provide. God bless.

Father God, thank You that You are still the Provider. Please help me not to stress further about (mention your concern). Fill my heart with faith and help me to trust You. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
