Don’t Go It Alone

Neville Turley

“Two are better off than one because together they can work more effectively.” Ecclesiastes 4:9 (GNB)

Christians have a Father in heaven and, as co-heirs with the Son, are an integral part of the great family of believers on earth.  Regretfully there are sincere Christians who for various reasons keep formal Christian involvement to a minimum, eschewing church membership, public worship, congregational Bible studies and communal prayer.  They prefer to go it alone and that is a great pity.

There is great value in Christian fellowship because it ensures that Christians never have to face life’s challenges on their own.

Somewhere close to most Christians there are believers meeting with whom they could relate in worship and grow in the Lord.  Fellow worshippers, who they can strengthen and be strengthened by in times of trial.

In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul advises them, and us how one should relate to fellow believers: “Speak to one another with the words of psalms, hymns and sacred songs, sing hymns and psalms to the Lord with praise in your hearts.” Ephesians 5:19

No talk of going it alone.

Both in National Defence Forces and also in high risk sports, such as mountaineering, cross country running, ultra-marathons and deep sea diving, the use of the buddy system is strongly advocated.  Never go it alone, is the rule, it is much too dangerous.

Some Christians have prayer partners perhaps it is time to develop this concept further and by our actions prove the truth of our verse for the day.

The body of Christ needs believers to work together to his glory.  Don’t go it alone.

Prayer: Sovereign God, by grace enable us to build our strength in union with the Lord and by means of his mighty power.  Amen
