CURRENT SERIES: NEW BEGINNINGS

DAY 14: A NEW BEGINNING… MAKING RIGHT DECISIONS

By Benescke Janse van Rensburg

On January 1, 2012, the 33rd Dakar Rally started in South America. For fifteen days the more than 500 teams followed the route of 8,300 kilometres winding through the deserts of Argentina, Chile and Peru. This rally is regarded as an endurance race rather than a traditional rally as the drivers move through extremely difficult terrain, including obstacles such as crossing dunes, mud, camel grass and rocks.

One key element to any successful rally driver, is a good navigator next to him. The navigator’s job is to warn the driver beforehand of obstacles that might arise in the path, how sharp the turn may be and also to change the tyres whenever needed. Due to the high noise levels in the car, both the driver and navigator wear earphones and microphones to communicate effectively.

Do you realize that we can be compared to the rally driver? On a daily basis, we too make the decision to either enter our day with a navigator (when we ask God to lead us through His Holy Spirit). Or we enter the day without a navigator and hope that we will find our way alone through the sand dunes, mud, camel grass and rocks (in the form of challenges that may arise).

Do you need wisdom today in a difficult situation? Listen to these promises from His Word:

Isaiah 30:21: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”

Psalm 143:10: “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

Proverbs 3:6: “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Why don’t you invite the Holy Spirit to become your Navigator? Not only will He guide and protect you, he will strengthen you whenever your “tyres” feel flat. And best of all, like the navigator in the rally car, the Holy Spirit will speak directly into your ears. All you need to do, is get to know His voice. God bless.

Father God, thank You for leading us through Your Holy Spirit. Help me recognize Your voice in every situation. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
