Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you and forgive one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. Ephesians 4:32

Life offers countless opportunities to make mistakes. And often these faults, sins and misdeeds are imprinted on our minds where the replay button is permanently turned on. It’s almost as if these failures and shameful deeds have been tattooed on our minds so that we are forced return to the “scene of the crime” for evermore.

Sadly, to err or make mistakes is human – and we are all human. Our path is littered with failures, broken relationships, missed opportunities, harsh judgements, hurtful words, to mention only a few. However, these transgressions are not what is important. It is what you do with them is what counts. The reaction of a mature Christian is to look past your failures. Make an Easter resolution to walk the path of forgiveness, forgiving not only others, but yourself.

How do I begin again? Start off by acknowledging your wrongdoing and taking ownership of it. Do not blame others. Step two is to believe that God is able and willing to forgive and not look back in anger and judgement. However, the most important step in this process is to accept that your sins have been forgiven. Put them behind you and reach out to what lies ahead confident that with God you are an overwhelming majority against evil.

Prayer: My God, we confess that often we are tripped up by the wrong attitude towards others, jealousy, hatred, envy and unloving relationships. Let it be “Easter” in my heart this season, so that I can die to self, and regard others as greater than me. Amen.
