“In the beginning the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him.” John 1:1-3

“The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father's only Son.John 1:14 (GNT)

Many people have opinions about Jesus. He remains both relevant and controversial today. Jesus was the Word of God made flesh, who dwelt among us. To know Jesus, you need to go back before our universe was created.

Most of us have wondered about the origin of our world. How did it begin? Will it come to an end?

Physicists who accept only the Laws of Nature that have been proven through mathematical formulae, believe that they have found the answer. After decades of research based on the theories of Albert Einstein (1879-1955) physicists formulated the “Big Bang Theory”. Some time in the far distant past three elements, positive energy, space and negative energy fused, causing a massive explosion and the universe was spontaneously created where before there was nothing.

Christians find their answer in Genesis and Revelation. The first sentence in the Bible states that God created the universe. On that first day, time and hope came into being.

In our verse for today, the Apostle John leaves us in no doubt that God and Jesus are one in creation and redemption. The Apostle Paul affirmed who Jesus is. “yet there is for us only one God, the Father, who is the Creator of all things and for whom we live; and there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created and through whom we live.” 1 Corinthians 8:6

The early Christians used the symbol of a fish as a sign that they followed Jesus. In Greek the word for fish is ichthus. The letters of the word forms an acronymn for "Iesous Christos Theou Uios Soter" which means Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour.

Some Christians still display the sign of the fish today. All Christians should by their lifestyle show that they follow Jesus.

Prayer: Heavenly Father grant us grace through the Holy Spirit to witness in word and deed our love for you through Jesus your Son.  Amen
