For nearly 30 years, a family in Michigan, America, used a stone as a doorstop in their barn on the farm. None of them attached exceptional value to the stone of about 10kg. This, however, changed when a Professor in Geology did a few tests and discovered that it is indeed a meteorite! Overnight the value of the stone grew to about R1.5 million (if a museum or collector were to buy it).

The piece of meteorite on the farm was always valuable. It just took the right person at the right time to highlight its value. In the same way, God created us unique and valuable. Sometimes He protects us from seeing it immediately because we still need our character to grow. However when we pass the character tests, He is able to change our lives in a single day from being a "door stop to a meteorite".

Moses experienced it. He was already 80 years old, tending sheep in the desert. The next day he was appointed leader to free the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt.  Esther was an orphan and the next day Queen of her country. Even Gideon was the youngest son of an unimportant family, but God chose him as Judge to lead the people.

In Psalm 139 we are reminded of how special we are in God's eyes. He knows us from before our birth. In Psalm 139: 17-18 we read: "How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sands . . . " And in Psalm 105: 19 we read:  “Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character. . .” When God saw Joseph passing test after test, He promoted him from prisoner to second in command over all the country.

Remember, we are all meteorites in God's eyes. He created us with infinite potential. May we daily ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in order to pass character test upon character test so we too will be able to stand with humility when God takes us from “door stop to meteorite”. God bless.

Father God, thank you for being in control of my life. Please help me to find my value in You and pass the character tests so that I can become a worthy instrument in Your hands. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
