Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise!’ Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!’  Revelation 5:11-13

In Revelation 5 John gives us a beautiful vision of Jesus in the throne room. On the one hand, Jesus is described as a lion. He’s strong and able to open the scroll that contains God’s redemptive plan. He alone can carry it out. On the other hand, he looks like a lamb that was slain. Humble and gentle, he gave himself over to death.

John invites us to join with the multitude of angels and other creatures in singing that the Lord, the Lion and the Lamb is worthy.

God is worthy of all our praise and honour because he is the Creator and Saviour. We owe every breath to the one who has made us, and we have new life, purchased by the blood of Christ, because he was slain for our sake. He is worthy because he died on the cross and rose from the dead, giving us new life so that we may serve and rule with him. He is the one who now reigns. All authority in heaven and on earth belongs to him, and his kingdom will never end.

Wherever you find yourself this Wednesday morning, glorify Jesus for the gift of salvation. Join with fellow Christians and with the angels in heaven in shouting out, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain!”

Prayer: We worship you, Lord, our Creator, Saviour, and King. We thank you once more for the wonderful gift of salvation, may we never take it for granted or trivialize it. To you be all glory and praise! Amen.
