For this is what the Lord says - he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth … Isaiah 45:18

Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, …Genesis 1:26

When God created the earth, he knew precisely for whom he had created it. He made it with mankind in mind. And after forming mankind, he breathed his very own breath into them, making him almost like him, as his representatives on earth.

The Creator goes even further; he places man in charge of his creation while entering into a relationship with the beings he made, inviting them to cultivate the earth and to bring forth more generations of people.

Why would God do this? We cannot speak for the Creator but perhaps he hoped that they would return the love he had for them. Sadly, it doesn’t turn out that way. And to this day we still fail to love and obey him as our Father and Creator. Yet, he never stopped loving us, just as a parent never stops loving a child. And many centuries later, God would put into motion the greatest rescue mission creation could conceive of: he sends his Son to restore our relationship with the Father while offering man eternal life despite our inability to love and serve him.

What can I do to restore my relationship with the Creator? Pray that God will gift us with a loving and contrite heart which will enable us to be the channel of his goodness, and mercy.

Prayer: Our merciful and loving Father, may we strive to love you as you have loved us from the beginning of time. Forgive us our human failings. Amen
