A few days ago, on a rainy day in Cape Town, I decided to treat my 5-year-old and 3-year-old by taking them to a nearby shop to buy pancakes. With excitement we entered the shop and walked to the place where the lady was already busy baking pancakes. After placing our order, we had to wait for a few minutes. My 3-year-old did not like this at all – and to my embarrassment demonstrated her dissatisfaction with a loud voice.

The moment I picked her up, her attitude however immediately changed. From where I stood, I could see the lady baking pancakes as well as the already finished ones waiting for us. Where she formerly stood on the floor, she could only see the brown counter. Without knowing what was going on or how far the process was, caused her frustration. In my arms, she suddenly had a glint in her eyes and a smile around her mouth as she waited with anticipation for the pancakes to finish.

When we pray about a situation without receiving an immediate answer, we are likely to become frustrated. We don’t know what is causing the delay or how far the process is. In 1 Corinthians 13:12, we are once again reminded that God sees the bigger picture: “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”

During times of frustration, we need to remind ourselves that God is still in control. Our breakthrough might be much closer than we think. In fact, if He was to pick us up today to look at our situation from His perspective, there might just also suddenly appear a glint in our eyes and a smile around our mouth corners at the realization of what He is busy with. God bless.

Father God, thank you for being in control of my life. Please help me not to start complaining if I do not immediately get a breakthrough in my life, but rather to trust You in challenging situations. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Assignment: What breakthrough do you trust God for? Write it down and talk to Him about it. Choose to put your faith and trust in Him – especially during seasons of frustration.
