"Jesus saith unto him, ”Thou hadst said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”  Matthew 26:64

“While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him.” Matthew 17:5

On 8 March 2018, the rarest of clouds appeared in Nevada, USA. It was aptly-named “horseshoe”, for it appeared in the perfect shape of a horseshoe. It reminded me of the Scripture foretelling that Jesus would appear in the clouds on a white horse, also depicted in many Children’s Bibles.

So too, many have seen angels in the clouds. Many have seen the face of Jesus and others in the clouds. Reference has been made of the Rider who will one day appear in the clouds and that every eye will see Him. The Bible speaks of a pillars of fire and cloud that showed the Israelites the way during their journey, assuring them of God’s presence. Noah saw a rainbow in the clouds, a promise of protection and Ahab was warned about the forecast of heavy rain evidenced only by a small cloud.

Often those who have lost a loved one would refer to a cloud of hopelessness and doubt in God’s ability to protect and heal. Those searching for love or suffering rejection, refer to a cloud of loneliness that never seems to leave them. Others fearing a financial crisis speak of a cloud of anxiety and uncertainty. Whatever the reason for the cloud in our lives, we know that we can and will find God in every cloud, provided that we do not continue searching for the sun ceaselessly. God is working in every cloud.

When in an aeroplane, flying through sunlit clouds or staring up at them while sitting on the lawn, we can find God in the artistic composition of the clouds. When staring at the dark clouds, I also see the promise of the rain of grace in the lightning stemming from the power and thunder of God’s presence wherein he displays his omnipotence. Every cloud may not necessarily have a silver lining, but a shadow of God’s presence on our journey in spite of our disappointments and heartaches.  So, maybe it is time to stand still, look up and see the protection and provision that is displayed in your cloud!

Prayer:  Father, today I feel defeated, alone and as though the storms in my life are just too much. But, I trust You for growth and peace after my storms have passed. Amen
