Paul told Timothy: "Preach the word of God, be constant in season and out of season." 2 Timothy 4:2

Like people everywhere, we are not always able to make sense of the seasons. There will be times when things go well in our lives, and other times of incredible hardship and transition. Be prepared for each season. Beware of being like the sluggard who does not plough in season and when the harvest time comes he looks but finds nothing.

Learn to read the signs of the times and do the work that corresponds with the season. Sometimes we miss the signs urging us to move on. Or to change course.

As you get older the challenge is to continue to work at and look forward to the “late harvest”. Take time to reflect on how your life was shaped through the planting and harvesting of many harvests over the years – at times a lean harvest, and at other times a bumper crop – depending on what you had put into the harvest or what the conditions were.

Learn from each season that you are in and accept that every season has lessons of life for us. We have all experienced drought or failed harvests in our lives. But at other times we enjoy a fruitful season which gives us new energy and hope for the future. Who knows what God has in store for you? It might be the best season ever. God surprised me by adding a late harvest to my life when He called us to Japan.

What about you, dear Verse a Day reader? Are you ready to call it a day?  Remember, your times are in God’s hands.

Prayer: Lord, your faithfulness stretches beyond the season that we can perceive. Your work will be done the day that you call us home. Let us work in season and out doing your will. Amen
