There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens: Ecclesiastes 3:1

Have you ever given serious thought to the significance of the seasons in your life? Our lives, over the years, are punctuated by many changes brought about by losses and gains, new beginnings or endings. At times we are at a loss of how to cope with these changes in our lives. However, we are, as the book of Ecclesiastes tells us, not the first nor the only generation pondering upon these things.

The poet of Ecclesiastes, a knowledgeable man as we all know, thought deeply about the way life goes. And as we read Ecclesiastes 3 we are brought face to face with the seasons of our own lives which are punctuated by change, loss, and also new growth and finally, old age. Often in the course of our lives, we are tempted, like the poet to despair at the apparent meaninglessness or futility of life. However, in the midst of his despair, he acknowledges that God has made everything good and beautiful.

Instead of becoming despondent as the seasons pass and as we grow older, consider your losses, as well as your gains as ways of growing in faith and closer to our heavenly Father who is a God for all seasons.

Prayer: Lord, we give thanks for the seasons of our lives – seasons of growth as well as seasons of despair. For in every season we discover new facets of our faith as we grow in faith and towards our heavenly self. Amen
